Welcome to Year 2 class page where you can find out all the information you need to support your child’s learning. Below is some information about the things your child will be taught this year. We hope you visit this page often to see the progress your children are making and see how much fun they are having.
Year 2 is an important year for your child. As well as the children sitting their national Key Stage 1 SAT tests, they are now also the oldest children in Key Stage 1. This means that they are the children and year group that the younger children will look towards for good behaviour and learning. Please remind your child of this so they understand their responsibility to help all the children in the school as other Year 2 children have done in the past.
I would like to give you some information on the regular routine of the class.
It is extremely important that your child attends school every day unless they are too sick to come in. If your child is going to be absent, please ring the school to let us know.
Please make sure that your child arrives at school on time (8.55am). Lessons begin the minute your child sets foot in the classroom.
Please ensure your child has the correct uniform and has their name in everything including their coat and P.E Kit. Their school uniform is a reflection on the class, especially when we are out of school or when we have visitors into the classroom. For P.E children should have a white T-Shirt, black or navy shorts, and black pumps. We have P.E on Wednesdays so please make sure your child has a kit. The children can leave them in school and take them home at half term.
Reading books are changed every Monday and Friday, therefore your child will bring a different reading book home on these days (if reading form has been signed and returned to school). Please read with your child for a short period each night encouraging them to sound out unfamiliar words and read with fluency and expression. Please make a comment in your child’s reading record and return this with the reading book on the days stated. If the reading record is not signed the book will not be changed. There is a £3 charge for any lost or damaged reading books.
Spellings will be sent out every Monday for the children to be tested on Friday. Please keep these at home during the week and practice with your child every night encouraging them to look, cover, say, write and check. You can even extend and challenge your child by getting them to write each spelling in a sentence.
Maths homework will also be sent out on a Monday and will be expected to be completed and returned on Fridays.
Children are encouraged to bring water to drink in the classroom. Your child can bring a bottle of water (only) into the classroom each day; these can then be refilled throughout the day at the water dispensers.
If your child needs an inhaler, could you please send it in with a name label and instructions on when to take it. All parents must sign a medical consent form in the main Reception to authorise any medicines to be administered by staff.
We are looking forward to working with you and your child this year. Any questions please do not hesitate to come in and see Mrs. Clarke.
