Teaching Assistants - Mr Davis and Mrs McGanity

This year is a very important year for the children that will see them growing with independence and learning increasingly challenging concepts. However, we will be sure to have lots of fun along the way! Be sure to check our class page regularly as we will want to keep you updated on the things we are doing in class.

Home Reading

Reading at home with your child will help to improve your child's confidence when reading, their fluency and understanding of texts that they have read. We encourage reading at home as a priority. Children should read for up to 10 minutes each night. Home reading books will be changed weekly. (Friday)

If you haven't already done so ask me for a form to register for the home reading scheme.

Homework will support topics that have been covered in class that week and may consist of Maths, English or Topic work. Spelling sheets will be given every week and the children will be tested on these spellings every Friday. Homework will be given on a Friday and handed in on the following Friday.

P.E is on a Tuesday and Friday afternoon. P.E kits consists of a white top, black/navy blue shorts and black pumps. PE kits are part of our school uniform. On occasion, we may have sporting events during the week so PE kit should be kept in school unless it needs washing. PE kit will be sent home each half term. Please ask your child if their pumps are the correct fit as they do grow quite quickly.

Water Bottles

Your child is encouraged to bring in bottled water daily to stay hydrated all day. Water bottles should be taken home each night.

Our new topic in Maths is Addition and Subtraction. The children worked hard to use the place value counters to help support their understanding of adding numbers crossing 10. Keep up the hard work Year 3!

Designing Ancient Greek Clay Pots

Making Clay Pots - The children in year 3 got their hands dirty making terracotta clay pots inspired by the Ancient Greeks!

Coffee Afternoon

Science - Plants. Locating and identifying parts of a flowering plant.

Library Visit - Year 3 went along to Kirkby Gallery and Library to explore the Gallery's new exhibit. The children had lots of fun. Thank you for the parents that came along on the day and supported the children with the activities.

Greek Day - To celebrate the end of our Greek topic,Year 3 traveled back in time to Ancient Greece. The children came to school dressed as Greeks, answered the register in Greek, completed Greek Maths, made head wreaths for their parents, baked traditional Greek treats, competed in the Ancient Greek Olympics alongside Year 4 and even hosted a party filled with Greek pot painting and Greek (Zorba) dancing. The children had a brilliant day. Thank you to the children's parents for getting involved by sending your child to school dressed as a Greek or turning up to celebrate all the children have learnt. We hope you enjoyed experiencing Greek life, just as much as Year 3 did.
