What is pop art?

Pop art is art based on popular things at that time including products and celebrities.

Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol is a famous pop artist.

He used a technique called screen printing to create a print where lots of images look the same in a repeating pattern.

He changed the colours to bright and unrealistic colours.

He often did prints of famous people, eg Marilyn Monroe (actress) or Muhammed Ali (boxer).

If Andy Warhol was alive, who do you think would be a good famous person for him to make a portrait of and why?

In the following video, taken from the 'Your Paintings' series, you can explore the painting 'Marilyn Diptych' by Andy Warhol.
