PE at St Marie’s Catholic Primary School
At St Marie’s Catholic Primary School, physical education plays an important part in the physical and social development of the child. . Sport can be inspirational, be fundamental in forming friendships and building the foundations for a lifelong healthy lifestyle. All children in our provision are given the opportunity to participate in a broad and balanced programme in line with the national curriculum.
As a staff team we are committed to providing a high quality physical education for all our children. Our nursery children take part in physical activity, along with our Foundation stage and Key stage 1 who partake in gymnastics, games and dance lessons. As our children move into Key stage 2, they build on these fundamental movements with an introduction to traditional team sports (football, cricket, tag-rugby, basketball, netball, hockey and cricket). During the summer term, the focus switches to rounders and athletics as we build up to our competitive sports day where all children participate.
As a school, we place emphasise on giving children a multitude of experiences. At St Marie’s, all children are given the opportunities to compete in school and local competitions through the Knowsley School Sports Partnership Programme and attend a range of physical activity after school clubs.
