Happy Thursday children!

I hope you are all keeping safe and feeling good. Hope you enjoy today's activities below.

If you do any of today's tasks, don't forget to share it on our Twitter page at and tag @StMariesKirkby so I can see!

Take care,

Mrs Wignall x

  • Practise saying and writing the sounds that we have already looked at  (m,a,s,d, t, i, n, p, g, o, c, k, u, b, f, e, l, h, r, j, v, y, w, & z)
  • Watch the following short videos all about the 'q' and 'x' sounds:

  • Practise saying and writing these sounds
  • It may be a bit tricky to find objects around the house that have these sounds at the beginning (particularly x) so just have a chat about some words that you can think of e.g, quilt, question, queen, excited, experiment.

Make a pretend shop using items from the kitchen cupboard. Ask your child to pretend to be the shopkeeper and do different things such as sell the food, sort it into groups such as types of food, sizes, weights etc.

Remember and talk together about the different events in Room on the Broom or The Gruffalo. Ask your child to draw a story map of this or pictures showing what happened at the beginning, middle and the end of the story.

Visit ‘The Gruffalo’ website

  • Listen to the Gruffalo song, learn the ‘Monkey Puzzle’ song in makaton and dance along to the ‘Gruffalo’s Child’ song. There are also some great interactive games in the play and explore area. Colour your own Gruffalo using the paint game, create your own monster on monster maker and much more.
