This week’s other learning focuses on supporting your child with transitioning to their new class or looking towards returning to nursery in September. It will give them the opportunity to reflect on their time in nursery, discussing their favourite memories and achievements whilst also considering their hopes and dreams for the next academic year.

Task 1

Read the story 'Elmer' by David McKee or click on the picture below to watch.

Discuss with your child about why Elmer didn't want to be different. Talk about how we are all special and why is it okay to be different from other people.

Task 2

Ask your child to think about what makes them special. What makes them different to other people? Using an old shoe box, make a ‘Special About Me’ box. Your child could collect items from around the house that represent their personality such as a paintbrush, a storybook, a football or a pair of dance shoes. Alternatively, your child could carefully cut out pictures from magazines or draw pictures to represent their individual qualities. Talk about the importance of being unique together.
