Mrs. A. Clarke – Class Teacher
Mrs. McGanity – Teaching Assistant
Welcome to our Year 4 class page where you can find out all the information you need to support your child’s learning. Below is some information about the things your child will be taught this year. We hope you visit this page often to see the progress your children are making and see how much fun they are having.
Year 4 is an important year for your child as they are Juniors and are role models to their younger peers. Please remind your child of this so they understand their responsibility to help all the children in the school as other Year 4 children have done in the past. They will also have their statutory times tables test this year.
I would like to give you some information on the regular routine of the class. Please read the information below carefully.
It is extremely important that your child attends school every day unless they are too sick to come in. If your child is going to be absent, please ring the school to let us know. We understand that during this time parents/carers may be anxious about sending their child to school, however strict measures are in place to ensure safety, good hygiene and social distancing where possible.
Please make sure that your child arrives at school on time (8.45 am). Lessons begin the minute your child sets foot in the classroom. Your child will enter through the main playground gate.
Please ensure your child has the correct uniform and has their name in everything including their coat and P.E Kit. Their school uniform is a reflection of the class, especially when we are out of school or when we have visitors into the classroom. For P.E children should have a white T-Shirt, black or navy shorts, and black pumps. We have PE on Wednesdays so please make sure your child has a kit. Please send your child into school wearing their kit on the days they have P.E.
Reading books are changed every Monday and Friday, therefore your child will bring a different reading book home these days. Please read with your child for a short period each night encouraging them to sound out unfamiliar words and read with fluency and expression. Please make a comment in your child’s reading record and return this with the reading book on the days stated. If the reading record is not signed the book will not be changed. There is a £3 charge for any lost or damaged reading books. You can find information on ways top supports your child's reading on our Reading section of this page.
Spellings will be taught weekly to the children and they can practice these through Spelling Shed. On the Spellings page you will find the link to access this and also a map of spellings puzzles for you to try with your child each night.
We also have a Homework Menu that your child can use to choose a creative activity. This homework will be presented to the rest of the class every half term. Your child can also practice their times tables through using TimesTables Rock Stars.
Children are encouraged to drink regularly throughout the day and will have access to fresh water. In an attempt to reduce plastic pollution, here in Year 4, we do not allow single-use plastic bottles. Your child has been provided with their own refillable water bottle with their names on. If you wish to send a bottle in please ensure it is a refillable one and not single-use.
If your child needs an inhaler, could you please send it in with a name label and instructions on when to take it. All parents must sign a medical consent form in the main Reception to authorise any medicines to be administered by staff.
We are looking forward to working with you and your child this year. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to come in and see Mrs. Clarke.
