Year 5/6 End of year Reports can be collected from School on Friday 17th July between 11.00 and 11.30

Welcome to year 5/6

5/6S Mrs Smith- Class Teacher

Mrs Fisher– Teaching Assistant

It is great to welcome your children into Year 5/6 especially as they all look so smart in their new uniforms. We are excited about the year ahead and are looking forward to introducing the  Curriculum. The promotion of independent learning will be a focus for the children this year in preparation for year 6 and for those moving on at the end of the year to a new school.

Class Information:

Attendance and punctuality

It is important that your child has good attendance with the government requirements being 98%. It is also important that your child arrives on time as this minimises disruption in the classroom.

Please ensure they come to school, on time, everyday.

PE Kits

Your child will participate in gymnastics on a Monday and after half term additional PE from Liverpool FC. Please ensure they have the full kit, (navy shorts and a w)hite T shirt labelled for ease of identification. They will need simple black pumps please ensure they have these.  As the day is subject to change or there may be additional opportunities for sports, children can leave their kits in school and take them home at half term, unless they need washing sooner.

This year we have changed our system for homework. There is a homework menu on this page. The chidren can complete the homework task when they can and every term we will have a presentation day when they can bring in and show what they have completed. We may use Purple Mash for this purpose. We will let you know which spellings your children will need to learn throughout this year. They will have a list of the spellings for each half term. Children also need to know the multiplication tables and will be tested on these regularly. Please ensure your child practises the tables at home

Reading is essential for children. Please try to ensure your child reads regularly and brings their home reader back to school to change when it is finished.

Year 5 will have a block of swimming for 2 weeks in the Spring term.

We are  looking forward to the coming year with your children

The term began for year 5/6 with a visit from a local Brazilian family, who told us what life was like in Brazil and brought in some wonderful home cooked food for us to try - drawing an end to our topic on Brazil. In addition to this, we travelled to All Saints High School for a Science experience day, where we put on our lab coats and investigated collision theory and the rates of reaction. The children had a brilliant time and learnt a lot. The children have been extra lucky this term, having had the opportunity to attend football festivals hosted by Liverpool and Everton Football Club and have their PE sessions delivered by Liverpool Community Coach Chris (with some children having also had the opportunity to attend the Reading Stars Programme that Liverpool Football Club offers). On top of this, we spent two weeks developing our swimming ability, at Kirkby Leisure Centre, with all children making fantastic progress and developing confidence in the water. As the term continues, the children will continue to learn about the USA in Geography and how and why its population has continued to develop over time; as well as having the opportunity in Food Technology to research, design and develop their own American pancake recipes to eat on Shrove Tuesday in school.  Furthermore, the children will begin their historical study on the Victorians where they will go on an extra curricular trip to learn more about how they changed the way we live in Liverpool.
