Geography
At St Marie's Gepgraphy helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, as well astheir place in it. The Geography curriculum st St Marie's enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas and which can and are used to promote their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Geography is, by nature, an investgative subject, which develops an understanding of concepts and knowledge and skills.
We seek to inspire children with curiosity and facination about the world, their locality, which will remain with them for the rest of their lives; to promote the children's natural interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth's key physical and human processes.
The curriculum is designed to develp knowledge and skills that are progressive and supported by the National Curriculum objectives, throughout their time at St Marie's and their future education and beyond.
Geography is a sacred subject
Geography enables all learners to experience the beauty, awe and wonder of God’s world and to develop an awareness of their place in it. All places and spaces have a history behind them shaped by humans, location, climate, and politics. Geography gives us a spatial awareness of the globe and serves to form respectful attitudes that serve to remind students that we are stewards and not masters of creation.
